Brooklyn Gatherings

When & Where

Ditmas Park, Brooklyn, Every Sunday, 10:00 am - 11:30am. (See schedule below.)

Please subscribe to this Google Calendar and check it in case something changes or we’re skipping a week. (Note: I’ve been told the calendar doesn’t work in the Gcal phone app—you have to open it in a browser.)

Sit with us

If you would like to attend, please send me an email briefly introducing yourself and saying how you found us.

If you have been before and would like to invite someone else, that’s great—please let me know that you’re inviting them.

Contact: andrew.s.blevins@gmail.com.

WhatsApp Group: You can join here. Any announcements about the sits or related events will be posted there.

Meditation

We’ll be practicing a meditation called Opening Awareness. The main instruction could be stated as “remain uninvolved.”

There’s no need to do or know anything before attending, but if you’d like to read about the why and how of this practice, this introduction is clear and accessible.

A full practice manual is available here.

You are free to practice whatever silent seated meditation you like.

We’ll also have about half an hour after the sit to discuss and share about practice and related topics. After that, we usually move into hanging out or getting lunch, depending on people’s availability.

Attending doesn’t establish any expectation that you’ll attend again.

Seating: We have quite a few meditation cushions for floor sitting (with yoga blocks to adjust the height), as well as couches and a handful of chairs. Feel free to bring your own seat if you like.
